Why dive here
With 169+ marine species recorded in the area - including dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales, ocean sunfish (mola mola) and octopuses - Fishing Boat Wreck offers some of West Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-17°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Fishing Boat Wreck off Ireland’s West Coast is exactly what it sounds like, but so much more than a simple boat. It’s got real character, the kind that develops over decades on the seabed. We often find ourselves just hovering, watching the shadows play across the hull, feeling that slight chill even in summer. This isn't a deep dive, making it accessible for most, but the exposure can be real. You'll navigate through the broken sections, past rusted winches and machinery, each piece now home to something. Ling often peer out from crevices, and conger eels are a regular sight, their heads poking from pipes. Look out for nudibranchs, too. They add splashes of colour against the greens and browns of the kelp and anemones. We love a drift dive here if the conditions are right, letting the current guide you along the wreck’s length, really soaking in the atmosphere. It’s a proper dive, raw and untamed, the kind that reminds you why you got into this in the first place.
Safety Notes
