FLOWERETTE - West Coast
The Flowerette, she's a different sort of wreck, not your usual deep-water exploration. We’ve always found her pretty charming, actually. She was a sailing vessel, not huge, and came to an unfortunate end in 1937 when a picnic fire got out of control. Now she sits shallow, accessible, a skeletal hull offering a glimpse into a simpler maritime past. What we love about the Flowerette is her accessibility and the way the Irish sea has softened her edges. You’re not fighting depth or strong currents here, making her ideal for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed bimble. We often take our time, tracing the curve of her ribs, imagining the deck where that fateful fire started. The visibility can vary, but even on an average day, the sheer volume of small crabs scuttling amongst the frames, and the way anemones cling to every surface, makes her a joy to explore. Look closely for the blennies poking their heads out of crevices, bright eyes watching you. Our pick is an early morning dive, before any wind picks up, when the light filters down through the surface and paints the wreck in shifting blues and greens. She’s a quiet, reflective dive, perfect for appreciating the history and the resilience of life in these cooler waters.
