Alright, the U-293. This isn't your average sunny wreck dive, let's be clear. Off the wild Irish west coast, this Type VII C/41 submarine is a proper dive for those who appreciate history and a bit of a challenge. Dropping onto the deck at around 70 meters, you feel the cold embrace of the Atlantic almost immediately. We love the sheer scale of it, the way the conning tower rises up from the seabed, still defiant despite the years. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, sometimes you get 20 meters, other days it’s closer to five, but either way, the atmosphere is incredible. The wreck itself is largely intact, with parts of the hull still holding together, providing shelter for massive conger eels and squat lobsters that peer out from every crevice. Our favourite moment is exploring the torpedo tubes, imagining the subs original purpose. It’s a serious dive, demanding experience with trimix and cold water, but for those who make the effort, it’s an utterly compelling piece of history brought to life.

    Safety Notes
