Punta des Plom (Buceig) - Medes Islands

Punta des Plom, or Buceig as the locals call it, is a Medes Islands classic, and for good reason. It’s got that quintessential Medes feel: big swim-throughs, sunlight shafts, and a proper sense of adventure. We love dropping down into the cave, a wide-mouthed affair that’s more like a cavern, where the light plays tricks on the deeper sections. Keep an eye out for the Spotted Dragonets here, they’re often tucked into the sand patches just inside the entrance, and we’ve had good luck spotting Red Band-fish too. The reef itself is a riot of colour in places, especially the Sunset cup corals, which absolutely glow under your torch. You’ll find plenty of Bass cruising by, and Triggerfish are common. For the macro enthusiasts, the Stout Bobtail Squid can be a delightful find in the quieter corners. We’d suggest going in the late morning, the sun angle really brings out the best in the cave's light show. This site is a brilliant choice for anyone who enjoys a bit of overhead environment without anything too challenging, and it offers great opportunities for both wide-angle and macro photography.
