NIKOLAOS K - Gulf of Tadjoura

The Nikolaos K is a proper hulk, a 170-meter bulk carrier that ran aground in the Gulf of Tadjoura back in '81. What we love about this wreck is how much of it is still so accessible, spread out in just six metres of water. It's less a deep penetration dive and more an archaeological stroll, perfect for divers who appreciate history and macro life. You'll spend your time exploring vast sections of the hull, now encrusted in corals that range from soft, waving leathers to hard, plate-like formations. Look closely, and you'll spot nudibranchs, small crabs scuttling between the metal plates, and schools of damselfish flitting through the superstructure. Our favourite part is navigating the shallow, sunlit spaces, watching the light play through the rusted metalwork and illuminate the colourful growth. It’s a great spot for photographers, especially early morning when the light is softer and the resident fish are more active.
