Siyyân H̱imâr - Gulf of Tadjoura

St. Crispin’s reef feels like the GBR showing off. It’s a long, outer-shelf reef, so you get that lovely blue water visibility on good days. We’ve found the eastern side offers the best conditions for a drift, especially when the current picks up a bit. We love how the reef structure itself feels ancient, full of massive brain corals and those intricate staghorn formations, providing plenty of nooks and crannies. What really grabs your attention here are the anemones. They’re everywhere, big fields of them, each hosting Clark’s anemonefish darting in and out. It’s hard to swim past them without stopping for a good five minutes. Look out for the triangular butterflyfish picking their way across the corals, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a few argus grouper lurking under ledges. We’d suggest keeping an eye on the surface, too; masked boobies and white-bellied sea eagles often patrol overhead. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration rather than rushing through.
