Gal Oz - Tyre

The Gal Oz wreck off Tyre is an absolute highlight, a proper piece of history sunk at 27 metres. We really rate it because it’s not just a steel hulk, it’s a time capsule. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is how intact this fishing vessel is, still sitting upright on the sandy bottom. The bow points north, and you can practically trace its last moments. What we love most about the Gal Oz is the way the light filters through the superstructure, creating these shafts of light and shadow inside. You can peer into the wheelhouse, imagine the old fishing gear, and see the nets, still tangled and draped like ghostly curtains. Schools of snapper and grouper have claimed it, darting in and out of the hold, and we often spot lionfish tucked into sheltered spots. It feels incredibly peaceful down there, a quiet monument to its past life. Our tip: go early morning, before any thermoclines set in, the visibility is often at its best then, and you get that beautiful golden hour light piercing the surface. It’s a genuinely evocative dive, well worth the trip.
