Kamel Okan - Tyre

The Kamel Okan isn't just a sunken vessel, it's a genuine piece of recent history, intentionally scuttled to create a dive site off Tyre in 2003. We love a wreck that still feels like a ship, and at 42 metres, this carrier gives you that sense of scale as you descend through the blue. You can still make out the superstructure, the loading cranes, and the vast cargo holds – it’s less a pile of rubble and more a skeleton of industry. Our favourite part is the way life has just taken over. Swarms of cardinalfish hang in the shadowed corridors, and you’ll often spot a grumpy stonefish or a scorpionfish perfectly camouflaged on the plating. Look for the nudibranchs too; they add splashes of vibrant colour against the rust. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet drama of a deep wreck, where the history is palpable and the marine life, while not megafauna, is intimately woven into the structure. We'd suggest saving this one for a calm day, as the depth combined with any surface chop can make the descent a bit challenging.
