MAKIS (PROBABLY) - Tyre

The MAKIS (PROBABLY) is one of our favourite shallow wrecks in Lebanon, sitting upright in a modest 7m of water just off the Tyre coast. This old tanker, which ran aground back in ’77, is now a perfect playground for divers who love an easy, relaxed exploration. We love how light floods the wreck even on a cloudy day, illuminating schools of chromis darting around the superstructure. You can poke around the bow and stern sections, seeing where the metal has twisted and buckled over the decades. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads peeking out, and we’ve often spotted octopus camouflaged against the rust-coloured steel. It’s a great spot for newer divers getting comfortable with wrecks, or for photographers looking for an extended bottom time to capture some moody shots without needing to rush. The calm, shallow conditions mean you can really take your time and soak it all in.
