Zeev Hayam - Tyre

We’re always on the hunt for something a bit different, and the Zeev Hayam wreck off Tyre certainly delivers. It's a proper historical piece, sunk back in '72, sitting upright at 29m. As you descend, the sheer size of the cargo ship starts to emerge from the blue, a formidable silhouette. What we love about this wreck is how much of it is still intact. You can swim through the holds, imagining the cargo it once carried, and the cabins too, which feel eerily personal. It's a surprisingly dramatic wreck, especially when you catch a beam of sunlight spearing through a breach in the hull, illuminating schools of silversides swirling inside. Groupers lurk in the shadows, and we’ve spotted moray eels peeking from every nook and cranny. The deck is a canvas of soft corals, a riot of purples and yellows against the rusted metal. We’d suggest going early in the morning; the visibility tends to be better before the sea breeze picks up, and it's always calmer then too. This wreck suits divers who appreciate history and enjoy the thrill of exploring a structure with a real story behind it, rather than just a pile of rubble. It’s got a very strong personality.
