CHERRY DUKE (STERN PART) - Dubai & Abu Dhabi

The stern section of the Cherry Duke sits upright, a proper shipwreck experience at 20 metres. We love how the explosion that sank her in 1979 blew out the superstructure, creating these fantastic swim-throughs and dark internal spaces to explore. You’ll weave through mangled metal, seeing where the ocean has started to reclaim the steel, with schools of snapper darting in and out of the shadows. The scale is impressive, a stark reminder of the tanker’s former life, and the visibility here often makes for dramatic silhouettes against the surface. For divers who appreciate history and a bit of a maze, this is our pick. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light filtering through the wreckage then is something else.
