DIFFURI MAADU - Fujairah

Diffuri Maadu isn’t your typical deep wreck dive, and that’s precisely why we love it. Lying in just four metres of water, this 85-metre steamship offers an incredible amount of exploration without the depth limits. We’ve spent hours poking around the bow, where the anchor chain is still visible, and swimming over the vast, broken deck. The ship went down in 1970 after a fire, and the years have allowed a beautiful growth of soft corals and anemones to colonise the metalwork. You’ll spot schools of snapper moving in and out of the hold openings, and our favourite find is often the moray eels peeking out from beneath the hull plates. The shallow depth means ambient light floods the wreck, painting the scene in blues and greens, making it perfect for photographers or anyone who wants a relaxed, extended bottom time. It’s also an ideal spot for newer wreck divers to get a feel for a large structure without the usual challenges. We’d suggest going early in the morning before any boat traffic picks up, when the water is often at its calmest and the light is best.
