MONIQUE S (POSSIBLY) - Santa Marta & Tayrona

Okay, let's talk about the *Monique S*. Or, *Possibly* the *Monique S*, as the name suggests. It's a proper character of a dive, perfect for a surface interval or if you’re looking for something truly unique. We’re talking about a drug runner’s wreck, beached in a couple of metres of water, exposed to the elements. You’re not really diving this in the traditional sense. It’s more of a snorkel, or maybe even a wade, but the story behind it and the sheer scale of the thing makes it fascinating. We love how the hull is half-submerged, half-exposed, rusted orange against the blue sky, with waves constantly crashing over it. You can actually swim through parts of the exposed superstructure, with little fish darting in and out of the metal skeleton. It feels wild, a bit lawless, just like its history. It’s a great spot for photographers looking for something a bit dramatic and unusual. Don’t expect pristine corals, but the life here is tenacious-small schools of sardine, crabs clinging to the barnacled metal, and the occasional pelican diving nearby. It’s an adventure.
