PATRICIA - Isla de la Plata

The Patricia isn't your usual deep-water wreck. We're talking 5 meters here, tops. She was a tanker, being broken up in the Rio Guayas when she decided to sink right there, and that's exactly where she stayed. For us, that shallow depth is her charm. You get incredible light penetration, painting the wreck in shifting blues and greens, especially on a sunny afternoon. What you'll find is a mangled, metal playground, completely colonised. We've seen eagle rays glide over the rusted decks, and the nooks and crannies are packed with moray eels and octopus. It's less about the historical intactness and more about the sheer volume of life that has repurposed this old tanker. Look for schooling snappers and grunts, swirling around the remaining superstructure. It’s an easy, relaxing dive, perfect for photographers wanting long bottom times and great light, or anyone who just loves exploring a wreck without the pressure of depth. We think it’s a brilliant second dive after a deeper drift.
