Menjangan - Eel Garden - Bali

Plantation Pinnacle is one of our favourite Taveuni dives, a bommie that rises from a sandy base, capped at about 6 metres. You could spend an entire dive just circling that peak, watching schools of fusiliers swirl, the light catching their scales. It’s perfect for new divers to get their bearings, a gentle introduction to the Somosomo Strait's currents. Descend a bit deeper, to the 15-19 metre mark, and you’ll find the base of the pinnacle where the real magic happens. We love the small swim-through here, tucked away, adorned with soft gorgonian fans. Look closely for a lionfish or two, always perfectly still, waiting. Out on the sandy floor, a field of garden eels sway in unison – hundreds of them, pulling back into their burrows if you get too close. Visibility usually holds around 17 metres, making it easy to spot the Peppered Squirrelfish hiding in crevices or a curious Honeycomb Grouper patrolling the reef edge. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration.
