Napoleon Reef - Bali

Pyramid Pinnacle is a dive we always recommend when someone asks about Kona. It’s got a bit of everything without being overly demanding. Dropping down, you hit a main pinnacle that sits at about 10 meters, then slopes to 19. It’s a riot of small arches and ledges, all draped in finger corals. We love swimming through the lava formations, feeling that slight temperature change in the shadows. It's named for the pyramid butterflyfish, and yes, they're everywhere, schooling so thick they shimmer in the sunlight. But our favourite moments here often involve the resident conger eels peeking from their crevices, or spotting a cleaner shrimp station busy with parrotfish. Keep an eye out for the yellow tangs, too – they really pop against the darker lava. Visibility usually holds around 20 meters, which is plenty to soak in the scale of the pinnacles. It’s a cracking site for photographers looking for interesting backdrops, or anyone who enjoys a relaxed exploration with plenty to catch the eye.
