TATSU MARU (POSSIBLY) - Redang Island

The Tatsu Maru, or what we believe to be the Tatsu Maru, sits in incredibly shallow water off Redang. At just two metres deep, this steamship wreck, sunk in 1945, is more of a snorkel site than a dive. Even so, it’s a fascinating spot. The exposed ribs and plates of the vessel are heavily encrusted, forming mini-habitats for damselfish and anemones. We’ve seen small barracuda lurking in the shadows of the larger metal sections, and juvenile reef sharks occasionally cruise by. It's a great spot for photographers looking for interesting light, or for a relaxed surface interval with a mask and fins.
