WORKING GIRL - Salt Island & Cooper Island

Working Girl, a 20-metre sailing yacht that met its end on Dead Chest Island back in '91, offers a surprisingly engaging dive. We love this wreck for its accessibility and how nature has taken it back. You're not looking at a deep, dark penetration dive here, which is fine by us; instead, it’s a bright, open exploration. The deck is gone, but the hull is largely intact, sitting upright in about 9 metres of water. Sunlight streams through the broken sections, illuminating the interior, which is now home to schools of snapper and squirrelfish. Take your time finning around the mast, which lies across the seabed, now a scaffold for sponges and soft corals. Our favourite part is peeking into what would have been the cabins – you can almost picture the life onboard before the sea claimed it. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for newer wreck enthusiasts or those looking for a relaxing second dive with plenty of chances to spot smaller reef fish darting in and out of the skeletal remains. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into the shadowed corners.
