The Channel - Grenada - Carriacou

Yellow Sponge Garden, for us, is all about the light. With a maximum depth of just 10 metres, it’s a brilliant site for those longer, shallower dives, especially if you’re keen on photography. You drop in near the shore, then head out west, north-west, and the sponges start appearing around 8 or 9 metres. It’s a wall with some sandy patches, and those sponges are truly something else – bright yellows, oranges, and even purples clinging to the rock. We particularly love how the kelp stalks, often dusty with marine detritus, frame the vibrant sponges. It’s a real contrast. Keep an eye out for Pigfish nosing around the ledges and the little Blue Dot Triplefins flitting about. Visibility averages around 6 metres here, which isn't huge, but it focuses your attention on the intricate details of the reef. We always recommend divers here pay extra attention to buoyancy; those sponges are ancient and delicate. It’s a lovely, relaxed dive that’s perfect for seeing a different side of the Poor Knights.
