Temaruata - Moorea & Tahiti

Temaruata, on Moorea’s north shore, is one of those spots we always try to hit. It’s a drift dive, which we love because it means more time watching the action and less time kicking. The current here isn’t usually aggressive, more of a gentle push, so it’s good for most competent divers. What we really come for are the sharks. Grey reef sharks mostly, in decent numbers. You’ll often see them cruising along the drop-off, sometimes a dozen at once, just doing their thing. They aren't shy, but they also don’t feel threatened, making for calm, close encounters. We’ve also had a few lucky sightings of Blainville's beaked whales passing through, which is always a thrill. Keep an eye out for Triton’s trumpets on the sand patches between the coral bommies. Visibility is typically excellent here, giving you a clear view of the reef structure and those cruising sharks. It’s a site that feels wilder than some of the more trafficked spots.
