Meridis Dive & Relax Cocogiri - South Malé Atoll
The team at Meridis Dive & Relax Cocogiri are exactly who you want guiding you around South Malé. They’re based right on Cocogiri Island, which we think is ideal – small enough to feel personal, but with direct access to some cracking channels. If you’re into drift diving with big pelagics, these guys know the currents intimately. They’re a PADI 5-star outfit, so expect well-maintained gear and instructors who really know their stuff, whether you’re just starting out or chasing a specialty. We love their approach to the day’s diving; it feels relaxed, not rushed. Our favourite tip they gave us was to aim for the mornings at Kandooma Thila. You often get a better chance of seeing grey reef sharks schooling there before the afternoon boat traffic. The visibility in these channels is often just ridiculous, sometimes a good 30 metres, which makes those incoming manta rays at Lankan Manta Point feel even more enormous. Sure, the currents can be brisk, but that’s half the fun, and Meridis always briefs thoroughly, explaining the ins and outs of each dive site. Expect to see eagle rays cruising past, white-tip reef sharks resting on the sandy bottom, and huge Napoleon wrasse making their slow, majestic patrols. It’s a solid choice for divers who appreciate personal service and proper Maldivian channel diving.
