Inside Edge - Aliwal Shoal - KwaZulu-Natal

Manta is a decent drift dive, about 40 minutes by boat from most resorts. We’ve found the visibility here averages around 13 meters, which is good enough to track the reef wall as it drops to 24 meters. It’s a site for keeping your eyes peeled; we’ve spotted ribbon eels peeking from crevices, and giant morays sharing their homes with cleaner shrimp. While you won't always see mantas, the name comes from historical sightings, and we have seen loggerheads slowly finning past. Look closer for painted frogfish and nudibranchs, especially on the coral patches. It’s a solid dive for those who enjoy a gentle drift and aren't chasing big pelagics every time.
