Leon’s Wall - Zanzibar & Pemba

Norman Wildside – Central always delivers. We head here when we want a relaxed dive with plenty to find, especially for those who like to take it slow and point out the little things. It’s a shallow wall that bottoms out around 15 metres, so you get plenty of bottom time to really explore the nooks and crannies. The wall itself is riddled with hiding spots. We’ve found everything from minute cloth-of-gold cone snails tucked into crevices to brightly coloured mantis shrimp darting between the coral heads. Keep an eye out for Spotted Hawkfish perched on coral branches, their eyes scanning for prey. Our favourite part has to be the top of the reef, which is incredibly shallow. It’s the perfect place to do a safety stop, drifting over the hard corals while scanning for Epaulette sharks camouflaged against the bottom – they’re masters of blending in, but if you look carefully, you’ll spot them. Visibility averages around 14 metres, which is usually more than enough for macro photography here. It’s a great spot for newer divers, or anyone who just wants a chill dive without worrying about depth or strong currents.
