Mbwangawa - Zanzibar & Pemba

Pinnacle. Now this one's a favourite of ours. You drop into the blue, no reef in sight for a moment, just open water, and then the top of the pinnacle appears at about 15 metres. It’s a proper rush, knowing you're about to descend onto this isolated coral head. We often hit it when the current is running, which means the visibility is usually good, pushing 20 metres, and the fish life is just phenomenal. We've seen eagle rays cruise past in the distance, their shadows cutting through the blue. The barracuda here, schools of yellowtails, are a real highlight, sometimes circling so close you can almost touch them. It's an energetic dive, the current pushing you along the sides, so it’s definitely one for divers comfortable with a bit of drift. Keep an eye out for reef sharks patrolling the deeper edges, especially around 20-23 metres. It's a proper Fijian experience, a standalone structure drawing in all that pelagic action.
