EVANTHIA K - Crete
The **Evanthia K**, just off Crete, is a real favourite of ours for a relaxed wreck dive. She’s not deep, sitting upright in only 8 metres of water, making her perfect for newer divers or anyone who just wants to take their time exploring. We love drifting over her deck, picturing her steaming across the Med before that collision in ’76. You can really get a sense of her shape, a proper old motor vessel, and the light penetration down here is fantastic, illuminating the schools of damselfish that dart in and out of the superstructure. What makes the Evanthia K special is how accessible she is. We’ve spent many an afternoon here, just poking around her bridge area and cargo holds, which are surprisingly open. Groupers often lurk in the shadows, and you’ll spot plenty of blennies camouflaged against the rust. For photography, we’d suggest an early morning dive; the sunbeams through the clear Cretan water make for some dramatic shots against the old steel. It’s a gentle dive, but with enough character to keep you engaged, and always leaves us feeling like we've connected with a piece of maritime history.
