Palma Wracks - Balearic Islands

The Palma Wracks aren’t a single dive site, but rather a collection of three merchant ships, deliberately sunk off Palma to create an artificial reef. Our favourite of the trio is the *Vaporetto*, sitting upright and largely intact. Dropping down, you’ll first notice the sheer scale. It's not a small boat, and its size allows for plenty of exploration – we always make sure to fin through the cargo holds, feeling the cool shadow as the light plays off the decaying metal. Visibility here can be really good, especially in late spring, so you get clear views of the resident barracuda patrolling the deck. We’ve seen moray eels peeking from every crevice, and on our last visit, a particularly bold elegant cuttlefish put on quite a show. Keep an eye out for seahorses clinging to the gorgonian fans that have started to colonise the superstructure; they’re a common find if you’re patient. It’s a dive that suits those who appreciate a good wreck penetration, but there’s plenty to see for less adventurous divers just finning along the outside too. We’d suggest going early to avoid the crowds, as it's a popular spot.
