SS Lamoricière - Balearic Islands

The HMS Stoic, a British S-class submarine, went down in 1943, and she’s a proper dive. We’ve always found wreck dives in the Similans to be a bit hit or miss, but this one delivers. Dropping down, you hit the conning tower first. It’s pretty intact, still recognizable, even after all these years on the seabed. We love seeing the resident Diana's hogfish darting around the structure; they’re bold and always put on a show. Our favorite part is nosing along the deck. You’ll find schools of shorthead anchovies shimmering in the dimmer light, and if you’re patient, a few horseshoe crabs often scuttle along the sand nearby. The stern is more broken up, but that just creates more nooks for Jansen’s wrasse to hide. Currents can be present here, so pick your day, but the visibility is generally excellent. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and enjoy the contrast of metal reclaiming marine life – a real classic.
