DANBORG - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The *Danborg* isn't your typical deep wreck dive; in fact, it barely qualifies as a dive at all. This 18th-century frigate, lost in a storm back in 1714, lies just two metres below the surface in the Gothenburg archipelago. We love it because it’s so accessible, perfect for a snorkel or a shallow splash with a camera. You’ll find the timbers scattered across the seabed, remarkably preserved, looking like a giant’s forgotten Lego set. We often spot small crabs scuttling between the wooden beams, and if you’re patient, you might see some flatfish camouflaged against the sand. It’s less about big pelagics and more about the quiet history, feeling the cold North Sea current drift over the centuries-old planks. Our favourite time to visit is on a calm, sunny day when the light penetrates right to the bottom, illuminating the dark wood. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving history, suitable for anyone who can fin or even just hold their breath for a moment. Just watch out for boat traffic – it’s a popular area.
