DELTA G - West Coast (Gothenburg)
The *Delta G* holds a special place for us on the Swedish west coast. It’s a proper expedition dive, a deep wreck sitting upright at 45 metres, and a fantastic example of a cargo vessel from the late 20th century. Dropping down, you’ll see the bow first, then the whole 57-metre length of her stretching out, a dark silhouette against the murkier light. This wreck went down in 1987, likely due to a cargo shift, and she’s remarkably intact. We love tracing the deck, peering into the open holds – imagine the general cargo she was carrying from Landskrona to Barton on Humber. The bridge is still there, albeit stripped, and the mast points towards the surface, a ghostly antenna. Our favourite part is the stern, where the propeller and rudder are still in place, covered in white plumose anemones. It's an imposing sight. Visibility here can be a bit challenging, often 5-10 metres, so good buoyancy and a strong light are key. But that low visibility just adds to the atmosphere, a real adventure feel. Keep an eye out for cod and pollock lurking in the shadows of the holds; they’ve made a home here. This is a dive for experienced wreck divers, certainly, those comfortable with deeper profiles and the chill of the North Sea. But the payoff is immense: a genuinely explorable wreck with a real sense of history.
