FRIGGA - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Frigga wreck, off Sweden’s West Coast, isn’t about huge pelagics or dizzying corals. It’s about history, cold water, and the quiet beauty of a wooden sailing vessel reclaimed by the sea. Sunk in 1882, she rests upright at 24 metres, remarkably intact for a wreck of her age. We love exploring the Frigga because she feels like a ghost from another era. You can still make out the mast step, the lines of her hull, and the sturdy timbers that once battled North Sea storms. It’s a dive that really makes you think about the sailors who sailed her, and the final moments before she settled here. Look for the small, inquisitive blennies peering from crevices and the occasional lumpfish camouflaged against the barnacle-encrusted wood. The low visibility, often around 5-10 metres, just adds to the atmospheric gloom. We'd suggest going on a calm day, as even a slight surface chop can make the descent less pleasant. This is a dive for the wreck enthusiast, someone who appreciates the slower pace and the stories whispered by decaying wood, rather than a frantic wildlife chase.
