INGE MARIE - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Inge Marie, just off Sweden’s West Coast, isn’t about big pelagics or colourful corals. It’s about history, cold water, and the quiet beauty of a wreck settling into the seabed. Sunk in 1945, this old fishing vessel lies surprisingly shallow, topping out at a maximum depth of two metres. That’s right, two metres. We love it because it’s a site you can spend ages on, perfect for really getting to know a wreck without worrying about bottom time or deco limits. You’ll find schools of juvenile pollack darting through the skeletal remains of the deck and sometimes a curious crab scuttling across the corroded hull. The shallow depth means ambient light is plentiful, even on an overcast day, highlighting the dark silhouettes of the timbers and metal. We’d suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, as the shallows here can stir up a bit. It’s a cracker for photographers looking for something a bit different, or anyone who just wants to drift over a piece of the past.
