INSTO - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The wreck of the MV Insto, a motor vessel that went down in 1974, lies capsized near Marstrand, a sobering reminder of the North Sea's power. She's a relatively shallow dive, topping out around 12 meters, making it accessible for many, though the conditions up here can be a bit challenging. What we find is a hull covered in the hardy local marine growth, the sort of green and brown hues you come to expect in these colder waters. We've seen various critters sheltering in the nooks and crannies of the overturned vessel – crabs scuttling over the plating, and a few different species of fish using the structure for cover. It’s a good spot for those who appreciate the somber history of a wreck and don't mind a bit of a chill; the story behind her sinking, losing all three crew, certainly adds a thoughtful dimension to the dive.
