LILLY E - West Coast (Gothenburg)
The Lilly E wreck is a proper dive, a bit of a local hero really, and one we always recommend if you’re heading out from Gothenburg. She’s a fishing vessel, sunk back in 2011 after a run-in with a container ship, and now she sits upright in about 32 metres, just begging to be explored. When we dive her, the first thing that hits you is how intact she is – the wheelhouse is still there, mast still standing. You can picture her crew working the deck, even though she’s long since been claimed by the ocean. Shoals of pollock often hang around the superstructure, shimmering in the shafting light, and we’ve found decent-sized cod lurking in the deeper holds. It’s a dark site, so a good torch is non-negotiable; you’ll want to poke into every corner. The visibility can be variable, as with much of the West Coast, but on a good day, the feeling of dropping onto that silhouette is fantastic. It’s a serious wreck for experienced divers, but if you’re comfortable at depth and keen for a bit of history, the Lilly E absolutely delivers.
