LOLLAND - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Lolland isn't just another wreck; she’s a slice of history, resting upright and remarkably intact for a ship that went down in 1893. Dropping down to her, the first thing you notice is the sheer scale – 70 meters long, and surprisingly upright on a flat silty seabed at 19 meters. We love tracing the deck, imagining the steam engines that once powered her. The stern is our favourite spot, where the rudder and propeller are still visible, often draped in long strands of kelp that sway with the gentle current. Schools of cod dart in and out of the holds, and the superstructure offers plenty of nooks for inquisitive blennies. Visibility here can be tricky, so we always aim for a calm day after a period of settled weather. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, peering into the ghostly remains of the engine room and imagining the last moments of this grand old steamer. We’d suggest it’s best for divers comfortable with overhead environments and good buoyancy, keen on a genuine wreck experience rather than just another reef.
