NEU HUSEN - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Neu Husen, just off Gothenburg, is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. She was a steamship, sunk by a mine in 1945, and now she sits upright in a mere ten metres of water. We love a shallow wreck, especially one so intact. You can spend a whole dive just picking apart the details – the bow still proud, the stern broken but recognisable, and the midships section a fantastic jumble of machinery and plates. Light filters down, illuminating the brass fittings and the surprisingly robust deck structures. This wreck is a haven for the local critters. Crabs scuttle through the hull, often hiding in the darker corners, and the anemones have really taken hold, creating splashes of colour on the rusted metal. Visibility here can vary, but on a good day, when the sun's out, it's a calm, meditative dive. It’s ideal for newer wreck divers, or anyone who enjoys a long, unhurried exploration. Our favourite time to visit is late morning, after any initial boat traffic has passed, when the light is at its best. Just be mindful of the occasional fishing line snagged on the wreck – a common sight on many popular European wrecks.
