Trubaduren fyr - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Trubaduren fyr is one of those Swedish spots we keep coming back to. Drop down the mooring line and you’re immediately into dense kelp forests, often bathed in that ethereal green light particular to cooler waters. We’ve found the best vis is usually on a slack tide, so planning your dive around that makes a real difference. We love finning slowly through the oarweed, keeping an eye out for the common lobsters tucked into crevices. They’re chunky here, surprisingly so. The light-bulb sea squirts offer a pop of colour against the greens and browns, and if you hover a moment, you’ll often spot broadnosed pipefish hovering amongst the stalks. It’s not about huge pelagics here; Trubaduren is for divers who appreciate the intricate details, the quiet hunt for smaller creatures. We find it incredibly peaceful, a proper escape. Our favourite part is the rocky slopes further down, where the kelp thins out a bit. That’s where you’ll occasionally spot a lumpsucker, looking all grumpy and magnificent. Keep an eye on the surface too; we’ve often seen razorbills and little auks diving overhead before we even entered the water. It’s a site that rewards patience and a keen eye, perfect for a relaxed exploration.
