WALMA (POSSIBLY) - West Coast (Gothenburg)

Diving Walma feels like stepping into a cold war thriller, even if it’s an earlier conflict. This steamship met its end back in 1939, captured by U-4 and scuttled with charges. It’s a truly atmospheric dive, resting upright at 35 metres. We love the intact bow, which still feels imposing as you descend, and the way the stern section has opened up, giving you glimpses into the interior. Visibility here can be a bit of a lottery, as with many of the Swedish wrecks, but on a good day, the details emerge beautifully. The wreck is well-colonised by mussels and anemones, and you’ll often find cod lurking in the deeper holds. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the quiet solitude of a deep wreck, perhaps best suited for experienced divers comfortable with colder water and potentially limited visibility. Make sure your drysuit skills are dialled in.
