WINNIE RITA - West Coast (Gothenburg)

The Winnie Rita, resting at 45 metres, feels like stepping back into a moment frozen in time. This isn't just a wreck; it's a fishing vessel caught in its final act, and that's what we love about it. You can still make out the fishing gear, nets draped like ghostly curtains, a chilling reminder of its working life before it went down. The bridge is largely intact, offering some intriguing swim-throughs for those comfortable with overhead environments, though always proceed with caution and appropriate training. We always find the bow particularly dramatic, often swathed in schools of pollack, their silver scales glinting in the beam of your torch. Ling and cod lurk in the deeper sections, especially around the stern, making slow, deliberate exploration rewarding. This site absolutely suits experienced cold-water divers keen on a deeper wreck with a palpable sense of history. Visibility can be variable, but on a good day, when it stretches to 10-15 metres, the Winnie Rita delivers a hauntingly beautiful dive. We’d suggest aiming for late summer or early autumn for the best chance of decent conditions.
