BRIGHTER HOPE - Cornwall & Devon

Now, Brighter Hope. This one’s a proper little time capsule, and a favourite of ours for a relaxed dive. We’re talking about a yacht, sunk back in '85, and lying upright at a very friendly 6 metres. It's a great spot for newer divers, or anyone keen on a longer bottom time without the faff of deep decompression. What we love about Brighter Hope is how nature has completely reclaimed it. The deck is a carpet of dead man's fingers, swaying gently with the surge. Look closer, and you’ll spot velvet swimming crabs scuttling amongst the growth, and butterfish darting in and out of the cabin windows. It’s small enough to navigate without getting disoriented, but with enough nooks and crannies to keep you poking about for a good forty minutes. Our tip? Go on a calm day, close to slack high tide, and the visibility can really open up. You get that lovely dappled light filtering through the surface, illuminating the ghostly outline of the hull. Just watch for the occasional lobster peeking out from under the bow.
