CATRINA - Cornwall & Devon

The Catrina, a compact fishing vessel that went down in 1998, sits upright and largely intact in just 12 metres of water. We love a wreck this accessible, and it’s a brilliant introduction to wreck diving for those new to it, or a relaxed second dive for more experienced teams. You can spend a good chunk of bottom time exploring the wheelhouse and deck, which are now completely covered in plumose anemones, their feathery white tentacles swaying gently in the mild surge. Look for the resident conger eels tucked into any available crevice, their heads peeking out, watching you pass. The light filters down beautifully on a sunny day, illuminating the anemones and creating a really serene atmosphere. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a small dogfish or two resting on the sandy seabed nearby. We’d suggest a dive with minimal current for the best experience; it makes finning around the wreck’s perimeter much more enjoyable.
