CELTIC - Cornwall & Devon

The Celtic, a trawler that went down while under tow in 1958, is one of our favourites in the area for a straightforward, engaging wreck dive. Lying upright in around 20 metres, she’s largely intact and you get a real sense of her structure, even with the years of erosion. We’ve spent many dives exploring her hold, often finding conger eels poking their heads out from the shadowy nooks. The bow is particularly photogenic, covered in colourful anemones and dead man’s fingers, swaying gently in the mild currents. Visibility here can be typical for Cornwall, ranging from a murky 5 metres to a decent 15 metres on a good day. We always suggest timing your dive for slack water; it makes navigating the wreck much more relaxed and lets you really soak in the atmosphere. The Celtic is a great dive for advanced open water divers looking to build some wreck experience without deep depths or overly complex penetration. You’ll find schools of bib darting through the superstructure, and if you’re lucky, a curious dogfish might swim by. It’s a proper dive into a piece of local history, unpretentious and genuinely enjoyable.
