CHANTEREYNE - Cornwall & Devon

The *Chantereyne* offers something a bit different for UK wreck diving, and we reckon it’s one of the most intriguing deeper wrecks in the area. Sunk in ’87, this fishing vessel sits upright and largely intact at 46 metres. It’s got a lovely eerie feel to it, especially when the light drops. We’ve found the wheelhouse is still largely there, offering some nice swim-throughs if you’re comfortable with overhead environments. What we really appreciate about the *Chantereyne* is how quickly the marine life has taken hold. You’ll spot conger eels in almost every crevice, big ones too, and the decks are often blanketed in dead man’s fingers. The sheer scale of the wreck means you can spend a whole dive exploring the hold, the bridge, and the stern, though we always recommend a good dive light; it gets dark down there. This is definitely one for experienced divers comfortable with depth and colder water. We think it’s best dived on slack water, which often means an early start, but it’s worth it for the clear views of the structure before the current picks up.
