CHARLYNNE II (PROBABLY) - Cornwall & Devon

Alright, the *Charlynne II*. We’re calling it "probably" because, let’s be honest, sometimes these deeper wrecks play hard to get with exact identification, but it’s a cracking dive regardless. Down at 56 metres, this isn't one for a casual potter, but for the experienced technical diver, it’s a proper expedition. The trawler went down in ’93, abandoned after taking on water, and she’s settled upright on a sandy seabed, quite intact for her age. We love the slightly eerie feeling descending onto her, seeing the outline slowly materialise out of the gloom. Her wheelhouse is still there, a bit collapsed but recognisable, and we’ve found decent penetration opportunities into the hold – just be mindful of silting. She’s become a fantastic artificial reef, absolutely covered in plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying like a ghostly beard. You’ll often find conger eels tucked into the darker corners, and always a few inquisitive lobsters peering out from under plates of metal. Our favourite time to dive her is on a slack tide just before sunset, when the light plays through the water and picks out the colours of the anemones. It’s a proper adventure, a real taste of what deep wreck diving in the UK is all about.
