CIGALLE - Cornwall & Devon

The Cigalle is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. A small cabin cruiser, she went down in 1988, and now sits upright in a maximum of 18 meters. We love this depth – it gives you plenty of bottom time to really poke around. She’s only about nine metres long, so you can do a couple of circuits, ducking into the wheelhouse area if you’re comfortable with overheads. What makes the Cigalle special for us isn't her size, but the life that’s made her home. The deck and cabin are draped in dead man’s fingers, swaying gently with the surge, and you often find conger eels tucked into the darker corners. Look closely in the cracks and crevices for squat lobsters, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large pollack hanging around the bow. It’s a great site for photographers who appreciate the detail of invertebrate life and the moody light filtering through the green water. Definitely one to do on a slack tide for the best visibility.
