COLORADO - Cornwall & Devon

Colorado is one of those deeper wrecks that really rewards a bit of planning. Sitting at 48 metres, it’s a dive for experienced deep or technical divers, no question. We love it because it’s still relatively intact, especially the stern, which gives you a real sense of its former life as a cargo steamship. You can drop onto the prop, then work your way up over the rudder and onto the main deck. What you’ll see here isn't about huge schools of fish, but rather the way life has taken hold. Dead man's fingers cover the metalwork, swaying in the subtle surge, and you often find conger eels peering out from gaps in the plating. Our favourite is exploring the various holds, where you can still make out some of the cargo. The visibility can be variable, as with much of the UK, but on a good day, with a bit of sunlight filtering down, it's genuinely atmospheric. We'd suggest checking the tides carefully to catch it on slack water – it makes a big difference to enjoying the depth and appreciating the sheer scale of the wreck. It’s a proper piece of history, a humbling dive.
