CORESTES 11 - Cornwall & Devon

Corestes 11, a small motor vessel, rests at a cool 50 metres, a proper technical dive and a real beauty for those comfortable with the depth. We love this wreck because it’s surprisingly intact for its size, almost a time capsule compared to some of the broken-up sites in the area. Dropping down, you’ll find the bridge structure still defined, providing great swim-throughs if you’re careful with your buoyancy. The prop is often a highlight, frequently swarming with jewel anemones, their colours popping in your torch beam. This isn’t a busy site, so it maintains a peaceful, almost undiscovered feel. Dogfish often shelter in the hull, and we’ve even spotted conger eels peeking out from beneath the engine block – always a thrill. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the quiet history of a wreck, who enjoy a deeper penetration, and for whom the cold embrace of the Atlantic is part of the appeal. Visibility here can be temperamental, but on a good day, the sight of the Corestes 11 emerging from the blue is something else. Our top tip: go on a slack tide, otherwise you’ll be fighting a decent current all the way down.
