DAGMAR - Cornwall & Devon

We love a wreck with a story, and the *Dagmar* certainly has one. This steamship, bombed by German aircraft in 1941, lies upright in 40 metres of water off the coast of Cornwall. Dropping down, you’ll first discern the stern, then the bow coming into view, the whole vessel surprisingly intact. The visibility here can vary, but on a good day, the structure stands proud, a dark silhouette against the greener light of the Atlantic. Our favourite part is exploring the holds; they're open and relatively easy to penetrate for experienced wreck divers. You’ll find schools of cod and pollock hanging around the shadowed sections, and the deck itself is carpeted in jewel anemones and dead man’s fingers, their orange and white fronds swaying with the surge. Keep an eye out for conger eels too, often tucked into recesses or peeking from open doorways. This dive suits advanced divers comfortable with depth and overhead environments. It’s a proper expedition, a tangible link to history sitting on the seabed.
