DEUCALION (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

The Deucalion, potentially, holds a certain allure for us, mostly because anything at 60m with a wartime story gets our attention. We’re talking proper deep wreck territory here, not for the faint of heart or the casually certified. Dropping onto her on a good day, the visibility might stretch to 10 metres, which feels like a luxury in these parts. You’ll find the steamship broken but still recognisable, the scale of her 90-metre length slowly revealing itself as you descend. We love exploring the midship section, where the superstructure has collapsed inwards, creating a fantastic habitat. Look for schools of bib darting through the rusted metalwork, and hefty conger eels peering from every dark crevice. Our favourite spot is usually around the bow, where the bombing damage is most evident, a stark reminder of her final moments. It’s a dive that rewards careful planning and experienced deep divers, offering a genuine sense of history and some seriously impressive resident marine life.
