DON LORENZO - Cornwall & Devon

The Don Lorenzo is a proper slice of history, not just another pile of metal on the seabed. This old steamship went down in 1927, capsized and foundered near Devonport, and she’s now spread out across a relatively shallow sandy patch, maxing out at about 10 metres. We love that she's so accessible. You can really take your time here. You’ll find her bones scattered, but there's still plenty of structure to get your fins into. The triple expansion engine is our favourite part, a real testament to her industrial past, now encrusted with colourful jewel anemones and dead man’s fingers. Look closely in the nooks and crannies; you’ll often spot feisty velvet swimming crabs scuttling about, or even a sleepy conger eel peeking from a larger void. It's a fantastic site for newer wreck divers or those who prefer longer bottom times without the pressure of depth. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, with some sunshine filtering through, it’s a beautifully atmospheric dive.
