DOOMEY D - Cornwall & Devon

The Doomey D, a small fishing vessel sunk deliberately in 1993, is a proper local favourite for a reason. Sitting upright at a gentle 12 metres, it’s just the right depth for a long, relaxed dive, especially when the sun’s out and filtering through the green water. We love nosing around the wheelhouse, which is still largely intact, and poking into the holds where plump pollack often lurk. The wreck itself isn’t huge, only about 10 metres long, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. Conger eels have made themselves very comfortable here, peering out from beneath plating, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large lobsters tucked into crevices. It’s a fantastic site for newer divers getting their first taste of wreck diving, offering easy penetration points and plenty of life without any tricky currents. Plus, the visibility, while typically Cornish green, often clears up beautifully around slack tide, making for a truly pleasant potter. Keep an eye out for dogfish resting on the sand nearby.
